An unexpected lesson in innocence (with a side of fun circus band music.)

I love the Heartland Cafe — renowned as much for their left-leaning politics as their chili and sweet potato fries.  Activists have enjoyed the mic there since 1976.

Tonight when a girlfriend and I went there for dinner, we had no idea we’d be taken over by an impassioned talk from Mark Clements, who spent 28 years in prison for an arson-murder he did not commit.  He was sentenced to four life sentences.  Four.  Life-times.  Despite the immeasurable injustice and violations he has lived through, he is one of the most gentle souls I’ve ever encountered.

Follow that goodness with the indescribable band, Environmental Encroachment.

Sweet home, Chicago!

Happy Valentine’s everyone!
Love, Erika
