One of these mornings, you’re gonna rise up singin’!

Summertime is a popular aria written by George Gershwin
for the 1935 opera, “Porgy and Bess.”

This morning, while minding my own business,
and pouring a glass of orange juice, its melody
sat on my shoulder, and its lyrics burst from my heart.

Of course I had to google, youtube and wikipedia…
for me… and for you… because this is
what wants to be remembered now.

So encouraging.

“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.
Fish are jumpin’, and the cotton is high.
Oh, your Daddy’s rich, and your Ma is good lookin’.
So hush little baby, don’t you cry.

One of these mornings,
you’re gonna rise up singin’!
Then you’ll spread your wings
And you’ll take to the sky.

But til’ that morning,
there’s a nothin’ can harm you,
With Daddy and Mammy standin’ by.”

Ooooh, Ella, smokin’! So understated. Holding back for the more intense effect. These kids at American Idol could learn a lot from listening to this one.
